Background

Approach

In the first phase of the project, the farm installed a 100 kWp solar array on the roof of its grain storage facility. This array was designed to harness maximum sunlight, providing enough renewable energy to power the grain dryers and other equipment critical to the storage and management of harvested crops.

The success of the initial installation, coupled with the substantial savings on electricity costs, prompted the business to take further action. Recognising the significant financial impact, the owners decided to expand their renewable energy efforts by constructing a second building, solely for the purpose of housing a second 100 kWp solar array.

This decision allowed the farm to double its renewable energy capacity and further insulate the business from future fluctuations in energy prices.

With the combined systems, the farm now generates an annual output of 188,920 kWh. The impact of the solar arrays has been transformative for the business in several key areas:
